Solar Power for Battered Women
In Western Massachusetts a new YWCA Campus of Hope provides battered women along with their families' daycare, secure shelter, and educational materials. The YWCA will also be solar powered. SCHOTT Solar and Berkshire Photovoltaic Services (BPVS) have publicized the completion of their 28.6 kilowatt solar pv installation at the new YWCA facility.
"SCHOTT Solar is privileged to help bring solar to the Campus of Hope," Mr. Tom Hecht remarked. Mr. Hecht is President and CSO (chief sales officer) of SCHOTT Solar PV, Inc. He went on to say that "by working with organizations like the YWCA and our partner BPVS, our commitment to a strong U.S. solar industry expands beyond creating American jobs to creating a meaningful impact for facilities that help improve lives."
Brian Lynch is the regional East Coast sales Manager for SCHOTT Solar and he says the solar project "…is a wonderful example of how solar power projects are working in our communities, providing clean, renewable power not just to homes or commercial businesses, but also not-for-profit groups. The system will last for over 25 years, providing the YWCA with a reliable source of solar power to help off-set their power needs."
This solar program is funded by a grant from the Commonwealth Solar Rebate Program as well as The Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust's Green Affordable Housing Development Program. It was installed and designed by BPVS. The design contains 130 SCHOTT POLY® 220 modules, produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The completed project for the YWCA facility will displace in excess of 19 tons of carbon emissions and save more than $5,000 yearly in electricity costs. Although the amount of electricity needed to power the building is as of yet unknown, SCHOTT Solar estimates the solar panels will provide 15 percent of the Campus of Hope's energy needs.
Isabelle Christensen is the Chief Marketing Director of SCHOTT Solar PV. Inc. She says SCHOTT Solar PV. Inc wants "…the public to know that solar is a smart energy solution for business owners, government entities and non-profit facilities."

Massachusetts General Court $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Massachusetts General Court is the state legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The name General Court is a holdover from the Colonial Era, when this body also sat in judgment of judicial appeals cases. Before the adoption of the state constitution in 1780, it was called the Great and General Court, but the official title was shortened by John Adams, author of the state constitution, apparently in the name of republican simplicity. It is a bicameral body. The upper house is the Massachusetts Senate which is composed of 40 members. The lower body, the Massachusetts House of Representatives, has 160 members. The General Court was established in 1630 when the Massachusetts Bay Colony obtained a new charter. It meets in the Massachusetts State House on Beacon Hill in Boston, Massachusetts. The current President of the Senate is Therese Murray, and the Speaker of the House is Robert DeLeo. Democrats hold supermajorities in both chambers. Massachusetts Health Care Reform $92.4 The Massachusetts health care reform law was enacted in 2006. It requires nearly every resident of Massachusetts to obtain health insurance coverage. Through the law, Massachusetts provides free health care for residents earning less than 150 of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and partially subsidized health care for those earning up to 300 of the FPL, depending on an incomebased sliding scale. The law is credited with covering an additional 439,000 Massachusetts residents as of April 1, 2008. The law established an independent public authority, the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority, also known as the Health Connector, which offers the subsidized coverage and facilitates the selection and purchase of private insurance plans by individuals and small businesses. Incentives for residents to obtain health insurance coverage include tax penalties for failing to obtain an insurance plan. In 2007, Massachusetts tax filers who failed to enroll in a health insurance plan that was deemed affordable for them lost the 219 personal exemption on their income tax. In 2008, penalties increase by monthly increments, and are based on half of the cost of a health insurance plan. Practical Solar, Inc. $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Practical Solar, Inc. is an American manufacturer of heliostats used for concentrating solar power, as well as for residential and commercial natural lighting (daylighting) applications. The company, located in Boston, Massachusetts, introduced its heliostat system for sale in February 2009. Practical Solars heliostats are small in the spectrum of heliostats commercially available for harnessing solar thermal energy. They each have 8 square feet (0.74 meters) of reflector area. To put this in perspective, the heliostats in a solar power tower project in Seville, Spain each have reflectors nearly 1,300 square feet in size (120 square meters). Practical Solars heliostat system is the first computercontrolled heliostat system that can be installed by hand, using only hand tools. Practical Solars founder Bruce Rohr suggested in Northeast Sun magazine that small heliostats are more reliable and more costeffective per square meter of reflective area than the larger heliostats typically used in solar power tower projects.
