The Solar Project $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In 1995 Solar One was converted into Solar Two, by adding a second ring of 108 larger 95 m (1,000 ft ) heliostats around the existing Solar One, totaling 1926 heliostats with a total area of 82,750 m (891,000 ft ). This gave Solar Two the ability to produce 10 megawatts. Solar Two used molten salt, a combination of 60 sodium nitrate and 40 potassium nitrate, as an energy storage medium instead of oil or water as with Solar One. This helped in energy storage during brief interruptions in sunlight due to clouds. The molten salt also allowed the energy to be stored in large tanks for future use such as night time.Solar Two proved it could run continuously around the clock producing power. Solar Two was decommissioned in 1999, and was converted by the University of California, Davis, into an Air Cherenkov Telescope in 2001, measuring gamma rays hitting the atmosphere. Its name is now C.A.C.T.U.S.. Solar Twos 3 primary participants were Southern California Edison (SCE), the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project, or UMNSVP, is a team of undergraduate students from the University of Minnesota that designs and constructs solar cars. In its 19 years, it has established itself as one of the worlds top solar racing teams, with top two finishes in ten of eighteen events entered. The University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project was founded following the GM Sunrayce USA in 1990. With little to no prior knowledge, the team successfully built and raced Aurora I in Sunrayce 93.The Aurora generation of UMNSVP cars, starting with Aurora II, mostly followed the cutout design that was typical of the 1990s, with a relatively flat body and a bubble canopy. Over three cars, the design was refined more and more. All three of the Aurora vehicles had successful trips to international races, culminating in a 4th place finish in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. Business Analysis Project Solar Industry $30.07 Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics Operations Research, printed singlesided, grade: 1,0, Anglia Ruskin University (Business School), language: English, comment: Incl. Strategy Map, KPI, Porter 5 Forces, PESTLE Analysis, abstract: The purpose of this Business Analysis Project is to evaluate the current situation of the solar branch, especially the German company Conergy Group. The aim is to show the current changes within the branch and the influence on the business strategy of solar companies. Furthermore the analysis will consider the following issues: A situational audit of the branch and the Conergy Group. This will contain an analysis of the macro and microenvironments supported by a PESTLE and Porter 8 Forces Analysis Strategic Alignment: Identification of the key success factors (KSF) of the branch, evaluate the performance of Conergy and compare this with 2 other big players in the solar branch. From this information, I will identify potential changes inside of Conergy and develop a strategy map.Another aim is the critical appraisal of the key figures and the current strategy of Conergy, supported by using approved analysing methods in a literature review in order to show potential improvements as well as recommend strategy adaptations. As a basis for the analysis of the key figures I will use the 2009 third quarter report and the 2008 annual report. The advantage of using this quarterly report and comparing it to the 2008 annual report is that the effects of the economical crisis in 2009 are visible. Project Prometheus $82.85 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Project Prometheus was established in 2003 by NASA to develop nuclearpowered systems for longduration space missions. This was NASAs first serious foray into nuclear spacecraft propulsion since the cancellation of the NERVA project in 1972. The project was cancelled in 2005. Its budget shrank from 430 million in 2005 to only 100 million in 2006, 90 million of which was for closeout costs on cancelled contracts. Originally named the Nuclear Systems Initiative, Project Prometheus was named for the wisest of the Titans in Greek mythology who gave the gift of fire to humanity. NASA said the name Prometheus indicates its hopes of establishing a new tool for understanding nature and expanding capabilities for the exploration of the Solar System. Solar City $180.02 This book is based on a master thesis project developed by Helle Hejler Andersen Mathias Lind Klogborg at the Master program in Architecture at Architecture Design, Aalborg University, Denmark. The project focuses on designing an energy neutral building in a Danish context integrating dwellings, public outdoor spaces and other functions. The building industry emits more than 40 of the Danish energy consumption, and for that reason it is a focal point to act on. As architects we play an important role in reducing costs and CO2 emission while at the same time designing better homes and indoor environments for people to live in. In order to meet these issues and to achieve energy neutrality the focus has been on integrating renewable energy sources without compromising the architectural quality. To solve this task the Integrated Design Process (IDP) has been used as a tool during the entire project to reach an integrated design. The project is based on the Bolig+ program. It originates from a Danish architectural competition that ended in 2009. The project period lasted 4 months, from February 2010 to June 2010. Practical Solar, Inc. $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Practical Solar, Inc. is an American manufacturer of heliostats used for concentrating solar power, as well as for residential and commercial natural lighting (daylighting) applications. The company, located in Boston, Massachusetts, introduced its heliostat system for sale in February 2009. Practical Solars heliostats are small in the spectrum of heliostats commercially available for harnessing solar thermal energy. They each have 8 square feet (0.74 meters) of reflector area. To put this in perspective, the heliostats in a solar power tower project in Seville, Spain each have reflectors nearly 1,300 square feet in size (120 square meters). Practical Solars heliostat system is the first computercontrolled heliostat system that can be installed by hand, using only hand tools. Practical Solars founder Bruce Rohr suggested in Northeast Sun magazine that small heliostats are more reliable and more costeffective per square meter of reflective area than the larger heliostats typically used in solar power tower projects.
