World Bank Financing of Education (2nd Edition) $71.6 Based on detailed analysis of thousands of confidential World Bank documents, this book demonstrates that the World Bank lies at the centre of the major changes in global education of our time. It outlines the evolution of World Bank lending policies in education, and assesses the policy impact of the Banks educational projects, looking at how it has: shaped the economic and social policies of many governments, including policies that affect education been an influential proponent of the rapid expansion of formal education systems around the world, financing much of that expansion been instrumental in forging those policies that see education as a precursor to modernisationserved as a major purveyor of Western ideas about how education and the economy are, or should be, related. Following on from the success of the first edition, this revised edition covers topical issues of globalisation and looks into the political debate concerning aid to developing countries. It will be of enormous value to those studying, or working in, educational policy in developing countries, international organisations and financial institutions, and aid agencies. Micro....Financing by Lathapipat, Dilaka [Paperback] $98.77 Poverty reduction through redistribution of income among the populace is a major concern of most governments which employ varying methods to achieve its objective. Among the methods used by the present Thai government is that of funding loan schemes to make money available to help the financially weak in rural and low income urban communities. The declared aim is to provide subsidised credits to help essential rural microbusiness projects or to ease vital personal consumption. This thesis describes the National Village and Urban Community Fund lender set up in September 2001 in the PraditTorakarn community in the Jatujak district of Bangkok and compares it in detail with an earlier savingsandloan scheme the PraditTorakarn Community Savings Group started by community members with minimal official assistance. The Savings Group succeeded in mobilising savings through high dividends paid to its members made possible by realistic loan pricing and prudent fund management. On the other hand, operational rules including concessionary interest rate of the Village Fund favoured the financially better off and wellconnected members. Solar Tres Power Tower $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Solar Tres is a planned 15 MW power plant based on solar thermal energy. It is located west of the city of cija, in Andalusia, Spain. Solar Tres is based on the solar power tower concepts pioneered in the U.S.s Solar One and Solar Two demonstration projects. Solar Tres uses a molten salt as its working fluid, allowing it to be stored in the molten state for power generation at any time. The project, which has received a subsidy of five million Euro from the European Commission, makes use of the Solar Two technology tested in Barstow, California, but will be approximately three times the size. Solar Tres will make use of several advances in technology since Solar Two was designed and built. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Practical Solar, Inc. $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Practical Solar, Inc. is an American manufacturer of heliostats used for concentrating solar power, as well as for residential and commercial natural lighting (daylighting) applications. The company, located in Boston, Massachusetts, introduced its heliostat system for sale in February 2009. Practical Solars heliostats are small in the spectrum of heliostats commercially available for harnessing solar thermal energy. They each have 8 square feet (0.74 meters) of reflector area. To put this in perspective, the heliostats in a solar power tower project in Seville, Spain each have reflectors nearly 1,300 square feet in size (120 square meters). Practical Solars heliostat system is the first computercontrolled heliostat system that can be installed by hand, using only hand tools. Practical Solars founder Bruce Rohr suggested in Northeast Sun magazine that small heliostats are more reliable and more costeffective per square meter of reflective area than the larger heliostats typically used in solar power tower projects. A Survey of Passive Solar Buildings $35.09 This publication of passive solar projects built in the United States has been prepared to document the state of the art in passive solar design. Passive solar heating and cooling can provide a major percentage of the buildings energy requirement, while at the same time representing a heightened level of involvement for the architect in the design stages of the building. The full potential of this passive conditioning depends on a sensitive awareness of the relationship between climate, comfort, and the thermal characteristics of buildings and building materials. Passive solar systems are often misunderstood and vaguely defined. Many of the approaches to passive solar heating and cooling are at rudimentary stages, with little performance data and evaluation, few modeling techniques, and minimal published information. Yet for the building designer and the occupant, these concepts have major implications in the design and use of buildings. The purpose of this publication is to offer a working definition and a basic understanding of a number of existing applications of passive solar designs. Methods of passive solar design are not presented in this publication; nor are rules of thumb or passive solar assemblies and components. These subjects will be addressed in later publications. A reference bibliography has been included to assist the reader who desires more information and to stimulate additional individual research and testing. Passive design techniques can be integrated in an additive fashion in more typical buildings but this challenge for now, is left to the reader. Author: Dept of Housing and Urban Development/ US Department of Energy/ AIA Research Corporation Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 184 Publication Date: 2005/01/01 Language: English Dimensions: 11.00 x 8.25 x 0.39 inches |

Electrification of Rural Areas Using Solar Energy $106.74 Access to electricity is a requirement for economic and social development. In the world 1,577 million people live without access to electricity. Private organisations in India, Tanzania and Brazil offer solar home systems to households without electricity access. This thesis investigates some of the many challenges which solar home system providers are facing. A country and a case study comparison shows that some of these key challenges are in making their systems affordable, sourcing components, financing consumers, educating customers and staff, providing a maintenance service, working profitably and growing sustainably. Financing School in Nepal $176.84 Over the last decade, public schools in developing countries have faced chronic shortage of funds, skills and expertise to offer the quality education to the children. Traditional source of funding is no longer adequate to finance public schools. There is plenty literature available on public private partnerships but little exists on models for state and non state partnership. This book, therefore, provides three models (nonstate financing to public school, state financing to non state provision and a joint financing) for partnership arrangements. Qualitative methodology particularly grounded theory is used to build models. It seeks to interpret partnerships in various perspectives and developed relevant partnerships models for school level based on the socially constructed meanings. The book demonstrates the application of qualitative methods in financing education. It is useful to policy makers, program managers, educationists, community leaders and students for policy formulation, program development, research and study design in the field of school finance. The Financing of Education in Developing Countries $149.42 A profound problem of many developing countries is that access to education as well as legal enforceability of contracts are both limited. The author, Caroline Flammer, addresses both issues. She introduces two financing schemes for the funding of early as well as higher education and designs contracts which are selfenforcing. These contracts promise to improve access to education without discriminating against children from underprivileged backgrounds. The first model studies the problem of financing a childs primary education when the parent is faced with credit constraints and contracting with minors is not possible. The second model uses human capital contracts for the financing of higher education in developing countries. In both models, the selfenforcement of contracts is guaranteed by creating an interlinkage between the market for education financing and the market for microcredits. The author also analyzes the impact of increased mobility and anonymity in developing societies on the optimal contract designs.
