How do I get solar panels for my school?

I go to an episcopalian private school in southern california. How would I go about getting a program set up so we can run off of solar power, we have a clear area on top of our gym's roof to use. Do I need to apply for a gov. grant? I have no idea how to do this but I'm passionate and willing to do the work, please just let me know what the work is! thanks
