Renewable Energy – High Hopes for Wind Farms
The government in the UK promised to reduce the country's carbon emissions by eighty percent by 2020 compared to 1990 levels. In recent weeks, however, the UK public opinion started to question the dedication of the government.
A recent article published by wallstreetpit.com claims that BP, a large British energy company, has announced that it will be refocusing its wind power projects in the United States while shutting down the wind power projects in Turkey, India, China and here in the UK. The article also claims that the UK will use wind power for thirty percent of the country's electricity supply. One has to wonder why BP is pulling out of the UK if the government is truly dedicated to exploring the options offered by wind power and other green technologies.
The Guardian website included an article that touted Great Britain as one of the world's premier locations for the development of wind technology. Great Britain's wind technology popularity comes from its long coastline and the winds that have become famous around the globe.
This same article names a new partnership between two major wind technology companies, Iberdola Renewables and Vattenfall, which will be building a new wind farm in the UK. This wind farm will cost 780m pounds to build and have an expected output of 300MW. Is it the pulling out of BP that allows for this new joint venture to be built? Why is wind technology being left up to private enterprise if the government is supposed to be fully behind it?
Still more criticism accompanies the complicated planning rules and the amount of money that it will take to construct all of the wind farms that the UK will need to build if the government truly wants to dedicate a third of its energy consumption to energy produced by wind farms. An independent entity, The Carbon Trust, has estimated that in order to speed up the process to move to renewable energy, about sixteen billion pounds will need to be cut from the originally proposed budget. An article by redgreenandblue.org points out that by the 2020 target originally quoted by the UK government, only a quarter of the offshore wind farms Britain needs will have actually been built.
Citizens of the UK understand that the power grid is not the best source of energy and that green technology is the way of the future for energy production. Wind energy is cheaper and better for the planet than the current system that is in place. Unfortunately the government has not proved its commitment to green technology. With the current deadline of 2020 still in place, and all of the blocks standing in the way of actually reaching that deadline, will the government really be able to implement the wind energy it has promised?

Will Barack Obama change my home heating source from Oil to Magic Unicorn Hair?
Sen. Obama opposes all new sources of oil, he opposes nuclear and--if it annoys a Kennedy--he opposes wind farms, too. Instead, Sen. Obama says that "new technologies" will have us all livin' green in no time.
Is Sen. Obama ready to tell the typical American we need to pay $1oo a gallon for our magic cars? Until he is, his opposition to new oil and nuclear is, like most of his other policies, ridiculous.
He'll have to, since under him, we won't be able to even start drilling anywhere. They say it would only reduce the price of oil a few cents, but don't mention that if we keep importing, it'll go up who knows how many more dollars!!!!!!!!!
AMAZING!!!! Pay attention people. Don't vote for B.O.

Panther Creek Wind Farm $90.81 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Panther Creek Wind Farm in Big Spring, Texas, USA consists of 305 wind turbines and has an installed capacity of 457.5 megawatts, making it one of the ten largest wind farms in the United States. Phases I and II of the wind farm became operational early in 2009, with the completion of the third and final phase in September 2009. The wind farm can now generate enough wind power to supply 135,000 Texan homes.A wind farm is a group of wind turbines in the same location used for production of electric power. Individual turbines are interconnected with a medium voltage (usually 34.5 kV) power collection system and communications network. At a substation, this mediumvoltage electrical current is increased in voltage with a transformer for connection to the high voltage transmission system. Snowtown Wind Farm $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The first stage of the Snowtown wind farm, was substantially completed by October 2008. First power went to the grid in December 2007. The official opening took place on November 2nd, 2008.It is on the Barunga Range of hills west of Snowtown in the MidNorth of South Australia and around 150 km north of the state capital, Adelaide. The Barunga Range is a northsouth trending ridge of the Mount Lofty Ranges, and since it is generally treeless, rounded, and lies across the direction of the prevailing westerly winds, it provides an outstanding site for a wind farm. When all stages are completed the wind farm will consist of up to around 150 turbines each having a rated 2.1 MW capacity. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Wind Farm by Belay, Eyaya [Paperback] $93.99 selecting sites for wind farm in the study area is a complex process involving not only technical but also physical, economical, social and environmental considerations. This study focuses on mapping wind farm suitability in Adama Woreda. The major data used were topographic map (1:50,000), Landsat image (2005), and GIS data layers such as roads, towns, transmission line, geology, land use and slope. The factors were developed in the GIS and Remote Sensing environment then weighted and overlaid by the principle of pairwise comparison. Once the wind farm suitability map has been completed, sites were evaluated with respect to the factors. The finding of this study shows that there is sufficient area for wind farm establishment in Adama Woreda with the most suitable sites located in the southeastern, northeastern and southern parts. 85 of the most suitable sites are laid on agricultural land which is relatively compatible with wind farm. 38.5 and 21.24 of most suitable area are laid on recent aphyric basalts and ash flow tuffs respectively which are most suitable and moderately suitable areas from engineering point of view.
