Offshore (Novel) $76.47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Offshore (1979) is a novel by Penelope Fitzgerald. It won the Booker Prize for that year. It recalls her time spent on boats in Battersea by the Thames. The novel centralizes around the idea of liminality, expanding upon it to include the notion: liminal people, people who do not belong to the land or the sea, but somewhere inbetween. The epigraph, che mena il vento, e che batte la pioggia, e che sincontran con si aspre lingue (whom the wind drives, or whom the rain beats, or those who clash with such bitter tongues) comes from Canto XI of Dantes Inferno. Large Wind Turbines: Design and Economics $603.72 In the light of the extensive debate surrounding the economics of scale of wind turbines, this timely work examines the engineering implications of developing lightweight compliant designs. Through the development of a unique modelling approach, the authors quantify the weight and cost of a diverse range of design solutions, enabling systematic quantitative comparisons to be made for the first time. This innovative reference will provide a valuable guide to engineers and consultants involved in wind energy development as well as academic researchers and postgraduate students of wind turbine technology.FEATURES INCLUDE: Coherent analysis of the interrelationship between the economics of wind turbines and engineering design configurations. Discussion of the main factors driving the weight and cost of large wind turbines eg. rotor design, number of blades, blade materials, flexibility and control strategy. Accessible overview of the development of large wind turbines and the direction that designs are taking now and into the future. Examination of the cost implications of specific design issues such as vertical versus horizontal axis, fixed or variable speedrotor strategy, compact versus modular drive train and direct drive configurations. Evaluation of the economics of onshore and offshore generation sites and the prospects for the deployment of large wind turbines in offshore wind farms. Investment in Wind Energy in Europe $101.96 Wind energy industry is young and has been growing rapidly for the past 15 years, with over half of global installed wind power capacity located in Europe. Although there has been a large amount of literature focusing on the development of wind power in Europe, little econometric research has been done in this area. This book sets to find out whether there is a direct relationship between the fuel prices and the level of investment in wind power in the EU countries. The research is based on six year panel data on the European Union countries. The results of the research are as follows. No direct link has been found between the fuel prices and the investment in wind power. Moreover, wind energy support schemes which are unobserved factors in the model, have been found to have an impact on the investment in wind power capacity. On top of it, GDP per capita has a positive and statistically significant effect on the investment in wind power, suggesting that European countries in the higher income range were more likely to invest in wind power in 20012006 rather than those in the lower income range. This work should be especially useful for energy policy researchers and economists. Promotional Discourse of Wind Energy $113.11 In recent years, an increased global awareness of the worlds energy challenge has fostered a corresponding global demand for producers of alternative energy resources to become effective promoters of their products and brands benefits. Despite the topics relevant nature, however, little research has so far set out to explore the specific discursive and promotional means by which alternative energy resources are promoted today. With special focus on three of the worlds leading wind turbine manufacturers promotional discourse of wind energy, this book therefore investigates how Vestas, Suzlon and General Electric promote wind energy and their brands through multimodal and persuasive means in webmercials on the Internet. In doing so, it proposes that an interrelatedness of the fields of multimodality and persuasion has significant consequences for the promotion of wind energy in the three types of webmercials. The study is considered relevant for students of communications and discourse fields and professionals who wish to become literates of promotional discourse related to the worlds energy challenge.
