i have several questions concerning the use of small Solar Cells and the amount of eneregy they can produce.?

1). How much energy can be gathered from a solar cell from a small calculator... and how many would be needed to produce enough energy to power 120 volts on a constant basis for maybe a small appliance.
2). If i have them connected to an outlet, wired properly will it work, and if so for how long before they overheat( if possible.)

You can be sure the solar cells in a solar powered calculator will be in the low milliamp range, and will be DC. If you plan to use the 120 volts to power the laptop's plug-in transformer/power supply, you would need AC instead. You could just build up to about 15 volts unloaded, and charge the laptop batteries with that. Without a big stack of these cells, you would not be able to run the laptop continuously
