Ways To Cut Energy Consumption Before You Build Solar Panels At Home

Before you even get started building solar panels at home or any other alternative power generator, be it windmills, or another type of generator, you can begin to reduce your electrical bill this very day. We are an energy and energy crazy nation, using our natural resources at an amazing rate, giving little no heed to what we may be doing to our children's future.

Start today to do your part to conserve energy and save on your power bill by using these tips

  1. Change all of your incandescent tungsten filament light bulbs in favor of fluorescent light bulbs or even better LED light bulbs. The LED light bulbs are rated for 100,000 hrs or approximately 12 years and are about 12 times more efficient than regular light bulbs. But no matter what bulb you use, if you do not turn them off when not in use, you burning energy.

  2. Get power strip to put your TV and DVD on. Put another on you PC and all the attachments. When not in use turn them off at the power strip. These models will still continue to consume power even when not turned on. This is ti give instant starts with no warm up need. The thing is, your TV will use as much power in one day in standby mode as you use to watch an entire movie. These standby devices can consume up to 15% of your power bill. That is pretty big piece change in some households.

  3. Air dry your clothes. Shut that drier off in the summer time and let the sun have at your clothes. The clothes drier is power sucking device for the 45 minutes you dry a load of clothes.

  4. Do not do a load of laundry or dishes until the washer is full. Better yet, do the dished by hand and save boat of cash on hot water and the dry cycle of the dishwasher.

  5. Cut back on the A/C. Turn the thermostat a few degrees warmer than usual. It is not healthy to run the A/C any cooler than about ten degrees cooler than outside temps anyway. Or turn the thermostat down a notch or three in the winter. Put on a sweater if you get cool rather than heat the whole house. These devices are hungry energy monsters so use them sparingly for maximum energy conservation.

  6. Take five minute showers instead of the usual half hour showers. Shower rather than bathe. Shower with a friend. Save water and the juice it takes to heat all of that water.

These are things you can do today to start saving and costs nothing except for the replacement of the light bulbs. There are few things you can do that will cost a bit more though that are huge energy savers.

  1. Caulk all doors and windows.

  2. Put weather strips on all doors and windows and keep them in good working condition.

  3. Replace old single pane windows for new energy efficient type windows

  4. Add insulation to your attic. Blow the attic to a minimum of 18 inches

  5. Install reflective roofing if possible or the next you re-roof put on light colored singles to cut down on the absorption of the sun's energy

  6. Install awnings over the windows to block summer sun invasion

These just a few things you can do to start conserving energy and saving on your power bill. With a wee bit of effort on your part, you could cut back on the energy you use up to a whopping 50% and hardly even notice a change in your life style.

Manifold Microchannel Cooling of Photovoltaic Cells

Manifold Microchannel Cooling of Photovoltaic Cells

$111.53

Several works have been published on concentration of solar radiation by mirrors or lenses onto smaller size solar panels, which reduce cost and increase conversion efficiency at higher concentration ratio. One of the challenges is active and uniform cooling of high heat flux solar arrays, because conversion efficiency is dependent on device temperatures and drops with increasing temperature. This research is targeted at cooling of small, high concentrated solar cells. Benefits of manifold microchannel are attractive for cooling of electronic devices but have not been studied for cooling of high concentrated solar cells which is the objective of this research, where the microchannel can be microfabricated and etched on the backside of the silicon solar cell to form a sealed heat sink with the manifold fabricated in the silicon substrate. This design not only minimizes the pressure drop, but also maximizes the heat transfer and provides uniform temperature across the device. A Survey of Passive Solar Buildings

A Survey of Passive Solar Buildings

$35.09

This publication of passive solar projects built in the United States has been prepared to document the state of the art in passive solar design. Passive solar heating and cooling can provide a major percentage of the buildings energy requirement, while at the same time representing a heightened level of involvement for the architect in the design stages of the building. The full potential of this passive conditioning depends on a sensitive awareness of the relationship between climate, comfort, and the thermal characteristics of buildings and building materials. Passive solar systems are often misunderstood and vaguely defined. Many of the approaches to passive solar heating and cooling are at rudimentary stages, with little performance data and evaluation, few modeling techniques, and minimal published information. Yet for the building designer and the occupant, these concepts have major implications in the design and use of buildings. The purpose of this publication is to offer a working definition and a basic understanding of a number of existing applications of passive solar designs. Methods of passive solar design are not presented in this publication; nor are rules of thumb or passive solar assemblies and components. These subjects will be addressed in later publications. A reference bibliography has been included to assist the reader who desires more information and to stimulate additional individual research and testing. Passive design techniques can be integrated in an additive fashion in more typical buildings but this challenge for now, is left to the reader. XRay Absorption Fine Structure

XRay Absorption Fine Structure

$76.47

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Xray absorption fine structure (XAFS) is a specific structure observed in Xray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). By analyzing the XAFS, information can be acquired on the local structure and on the unoccupied electronic states. The Xray absorption spectra show a steep rise at the corelevel binding energy of Xrayabsorbing atoms and attenuates gradually with the Xray energy. The XAS spectra are usually divided in three energy regions: 1) the edge region, 2) the Xray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES); 3) the extended Xray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). The absorption peaks at the absorption edges in a range of about 5 eV were first explained by Walther Kossel as due to electronic transitions to first unoccupied molecular levels above the chemical potential, and for many years was referred to as the Kossel structure now it is known as absorption edge region. Absorption (Electromagnetic Radiation)

Absorption (Electromagnetic Radiation)

$103.56

In physics, absorption of electromagnetic radiation is the way by which the energy of a photon is taken up by matter, typically the electrons of an atom. Thus, the electromagnetic energy is transformed to other forms of energy, for example, to heat. The absorption of light during wave propagation is often called attenuation. Usually, the absorption of waves does not depend on their intensity, although in certain conditions, the medium changes its transparency dependently on the intensity of waves going through, and the Saturable absorption occurs.
