A lrgish flat garage roof. What good uses could it be put to ?

Hi Folks,

I have a double width garage. It has strong joists, floorboarding, an asphalt cover, then a layel of gravel.

It has been bugging me for years that this fine area is not being used to its' full potential.

I have considered fencing and astroturf; a large greenhouse; solar arrays, and various rediculous notions.

Bolting on a wrought iron external staircase is not a big problem, so I'd be interested in all practical and humourous suggestions that the planning permission bods would have to scratch their heads about.

Bob it just has to be your organic vegetable plot, pop some wooden troughs and planters up there with a bit of compost and horse manure mixed up, stick those mouldy old potatoes in the earth with some nasturtium seeds to make it look pretty and off it goes. I would rig a hosepipe up so you have a permanent water supply, and a little shady area (pub umbrella, adirondack chair) for me to escape and drink my home made potato wine while strumming the "planning permission" song on my ukelele. I wouldn't bother with the wrought iron staircase - do you really want to share it with all the local kids?

Oooh and BEES! Don't forget the bees!
