Solar Water Heating in Dragash Municipality, Kosovo $106.74 Water has been heated with the sun almost as long as there have been humans, but it is not until recently that more advanced and effective solar water heating systems have become common, and they are still gaining ground. Through the years new systems and new solar collectors have been developed. In Kosovo, however, not much attention has been paid to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources and solar water heating systems is a new concept. However, a solar water heating system has been installed at the hospital in Dragash Municipality in southern Kosovo. The system is a pilot project, to see how well solar energy can be used in this area. This thesis examines the existing solar water heating system at the hospital in Dragash. The possibilities of using the fundamental principle of the solar water heating system at the hospital on residential houses in Dragash is looked into. The total annual incoming solar radiation for one square meter is calculated. The environmental, social and economic effects of solar water heating in Dragash is considered and discussed. Economic calculations are made on the effects of installation of solar water heating systems. Author: Dahl H. Solar Hot Water Heating Systems $109.93 The current state of our environment calls for an energy revolution. To combat the threats of global warming and growing pollution due to fossil fuels, the United States must shift away from depleting non renewable energy sources towards a more stable alternative. The most viable alternative at this time is solar energy. This paper observes the steps needed for a speedy transition towards this clean and renewable energy source. The first section of this thesis outlines the possible governmental and social incentives needed to power this revolution. While the second portion addresses the growing efficiency of solar hot water heating technologies. Through collaboration with the ecoMOD project at the University of Virginia, which elicits the design, build, and evaluation of sustainable affordable housing in the Charlottesville area, this thesis analyzes the inresidential efficiencies of two competing solar waterheating designs the flatplate and evacuated tube array. Their efficiencies have been tested through laboratory research under ideal conditions, however this study analyzes the two as they function under reallife conditions. Solar Power in the European Union $89.22 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Solar power consists of photovoltaic and solar thermal power. The need for the strategic development of photovoltaic systems in the EU has led to the creation of PVNET, a network that gathers representatives from all the sectors of the research and development community concerned with the photovoltaic solar energy industry (see solar cell). The network promotes communication between speakers through the organisation of specialised conferences, workshops and congresses. This interaction has led to the editing of a waybill, finished in 2003 with the aim of providing a solid basis for EU leaders and European citizens to base their decisions and policy making and in order to help reach the objective set by the European Commission to multiply the use of photovoltaic systems by thirty times by 2010. Practical Solar, Inc. $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Practical Solar, Inc. is an American manufacturer of heliostats used for concentrating solar power, as well as for residential and commercial natural lighting (daylighting) applications. The company, located in Boston, Massachusetts, introduced its heliostat system for sale in February 2009. Practical Solars heliostats are small in the spectrum of heliostats commercially available for harnessing solar thermal energy. They each have 8 square feet (0.74 meters) of reflector area. To put this in perspective, the heliostats in a solar power tower project in Seville, Spain each have reflectors nearly 1,300 square feet in size (120 square meters). Practical Solars heliostat system is the first computercontrolled heliostat system that can be installed by hand, using only hand tools. Practical Solars founder Bruce Rohr suggested in Northeast Sun magazine that small heliostats are more reliable and more costeffective per square meter of reflective area than the larger heliostats typically used in solar power tower projects. A Survey of Passive Solar Buildings $35.09 This publication of passive solar projects built in the United States has been prepared to document the state of the art in passive solar design. Passive solar heating and cooling can provide a major percentage of the buildings energy requirement, while at the same time representing a heightened level of involvement for the architect in the design stages of the building. The full potential of this passive conditioning depends on a sensitive awareness of the relationship between climate, comfort, and the thermal characteristics of buildings and building materials. Passive solar systems are often misunderstood and vaguely defined. Many of the approaches to passive solar heating and cooling are at rudimentary stages, with little performance data and evaluation, few modeling techniques, and minimal published information. Yet for the building designer and the occupant, these concepts have major implications in the design and use of buildings. The purpose of this publication is to offer a working definition and a basic understanding of a number of existing applications of passive solar designs. Methods of passive solar design are not presented in this publication; nor are rules of thumb or passive solar assemblies and components. These subjects will be addressed in later publications. A reference bibliography has been included to assist the reader who desires more information and to stimulate additional individual research and testing. Passive design techniques can be integrated in an additive fashion in more typical buildings but this challenge for now, is left to the reader. Business Models for Micro Chp in Residential Buildings $134.33 The tremendously high CO2 emissions resulting from decades of unsustainable generation of electricity and heat from fossil fuels are widely recognised as the main cause of climate change, todays biggest threat to the environment. There is an urgent need for the deployment of more sustainable energy technologies. A promising option for a more sustainable energy supply of residential buildings are micro CHP systems, ie systems for the combined production of heat and power that operate at a very small scale and are located close the point of consumption. However, micro CHP is still far from penetrating the market, and a good deal of work is needed to find a way out of this situation. This book contributes to businessrelated research on residential micro CHP by investigating the following questions: a) What is the market environment for residential micro CHP in Europes largest markets, and what are the implications for business models in these markets? b) What does actual business practice look like in these markets? c) What are possible future developments in the market for residential micro CHP, and how do they affect business models?
