Why do people always say everyone use to think the world was flat?

This is wrong, only Europeans who lived during the dark ages thought that. Everyone else knew the world was round. If man didn't know that how was the Zodiac and Astrology invented, that's based off the knowledge that the Earth rotates around the sun and its relationship to the heavenly bodies. They obviously knew more about the solar system than we give them credit for. And astrology has been practiced for thousands of years.

It depends on what era of history you're talking about. Unless told otherwise, *everyone* would assume the earth is flat and the sun goes around us because that's what it *looks* like.

The pseudoscience of astrology does not require knowledge of the true nature of the solar system, only the invention of complicated schemes called epicycles (circles upon circles) to enable the prediction of celestial events. Once the biases in favor of an earth-centered universe and heavenly bodies that must move in perfect circles were removed the motions of these bodies became much easier to predict.

The ancient Greeks did figure out that the earth was spherical, but this knowledge was lost for centuries thanks to religious bias. I have never heard of other cultures from that long ago which had also discovered this, so where do you get your sweeping assumptions from?
