I need an overview on solar heating for a home?

My wife and I are looking into this house that has heating Solar and I just want to know more about how it all works. I suppose the house has solar panels on the roof. The basement has any peers as a water heater ordinary next to him is what I think is a solar water heater, he said something like "storage of solar electricity." Them also rechargeable batteries in another room. they are like car batteries, in another room their is a kind of small motor which connections battery. More solar panels generate heat through its own ventilation system in the house, I think. What I want to know is how it works, how long the last. PS Wish them a normal gas or electric oven that works with solar power?
